WHAT IS ‘MOUNTAIN SKILLS FOR RUNNERS’?

A one day introductory course for those wishing to gain and develop a full range of skills for safe and efficient off-road running and hiking in hills and mountains. With a big dose of navigation training, we’ll also look at a range of issues from clothing and equipment, route selection, techniques, trail and mountain running ethos, together with the all important safety and environmental issues. Courses are fun and informative: No subject is off limits, and we will help you conquer your fears and enhance your skills.

Don’t panic about keeping up – this is not a physical training day! The course is conducted at a brisk walking pace with some jogging and maybe downhill running only where appropriate. This course is ideal for those with some trail running or hiking experience and who wish to venture into more remote areas or tackle unmarked race routes, adventure races or mountain marathons.

NAV4 are a small team of vastly experienced tutors and coaches with years of Outdoor Education work. We have an excellent reputation for quality inclusive tuition, based on a 4:1 maximum ratio. Our running achievements are secondary to this.

The course is outdoor based, starting at 10 am and finishing around 3:30pm. Course location is  Askham in The Lake District. Penrith and M6 Junction 40 is just five miles away.

Map sheets provided, with demo compasses to try and buy. You just need your outdoor gear, some snacks and a sense of adventure.
